There is a vast array of wetsuits available. I wear a variety of wet suits throughout the year so that I can enjoy the water even when its cold. Wet suits are made of neoprene a stretchy material that acts as an insulator. The purpose of a wet suit is to help keep body heat inside keeping you warm and comfortable. There are many thicknesses available in wet suits measured in millimeters.
Types


Shorty- a shorty is simply a wet suit that covers your torso with leggings and short sleeves. This is your basic wet suit and can be worn for a variety of activities.


Farmer John/Jane or Long John/Jane- These wetsuits cover your torso with wide straps on your shoulders with long leggings down to your ankles. Hence the name “farmer” they are your wet suit “over alls”.

Full Wet Suit/Steamer- These suits cover your entire body with the exception of your hands, feet, and head.
For budget purposes, you can also purchase a combo. This will give you extra core protection. You would get a Farmer and a jacket. This suit serves a multi-purpose.
